It's been tough but I think I'm gonna make it. For the last week and a half I managed to stay away from soda and hard liquor. The only time I had something fried was on Sunday I had a 5 piece boneless chicken from Wing Stop for lunch and 2 turkey tacos at my sisters house for dinner and on Monday I had 3 flourless wings from Magic Wheels.
I feel good!!
I know I'm well on my way!!
This is my path to giving the ultimate gift...a kidney! Follow me through my emotions, my weight loss, the process and if it's God's will...the surgery and the recovery! Please feel free to leave me comments, suggestions, prayers and motivation!!

What Are You Giving Up For Lent??
I'm preparing myself to start the P90X workout program. I know it's going to be hard but I know I'll be happy with the results in the end.
For now I started by giving up some things for Lent (Ash Wednesday - Easter):
* Sodas
* Hard Liquor
* Fried Foods
I love my friends soooooo much. In an effort to motivate me they decided to give up some things in their life.
TANISHA:
Hard liquor and fried foods
SHATRECE:
Sodas and will cut down to eating fried foods at a maximum of twice a week
ERIC:
Sodas and will only eat at 1 of the following places at a maximum of once a week (Carl's Jr., Wendy's, Del Taco, Taco Bell and McDonald's)
CAROLINE:
Sodas except Sprite, 7Up and Sierra Mist and cutting down on fried foods.
I am one of the luckiest people I know to have such a strong support system. I get encouragement on a daily basis.
Thank you so much to everyone that has taken the time to call, text or post encouraging words and love. It really means a lot to me. Please believe that I go back to the posts and read them everyday!
What's Next?
I called to make my appointment for my initial medical workup. The original date was March 17-18 but I had to change it because I have to go to a funeral on March 18.
Rest In Paradise Yolanda "Mz Innocent" Larriett
So my appointment is now on April 7-8. There is sooooo much paperwork already.
What's in the initial medical workup?
* Blood Tests
* Urine Tests
* Blood Pressure Screening
* EKG
* X-Ray
* Glucose Tolerance Test
* Urogram
* Counseling with the Psychiatrist
* Meeting with the Nephrologist
Whew that's a lot of work!!!
And since I know that they are going to tell me I have to lose weight I have decided to start on that goal.

Compatibility Testing...
February 1, 2011...
...the day has come for me to take my Compatibility Test (this is where they test your blood for tissue type match, blood type compatibility and cross match results).
A couple days before my test I had a dream that everything went the way it was supposed to and that the surgery happened. That's when I was even more certain that things were gonna go well. I prayed, let go and let GOD. There's no turning back now.
My friend Caroline went with me to UCLA to get my blood work done. Did I mention I HATE needles? Things went well and they took 6 tubes of blood. I thought I was going to faint. My arm was black and blue for about 4 days.
The results would be back in a couple of weeks.
I went to San Diego for the weekend and when I returned home on Valentine's Day I received a letter from UCLA.
THE RESULTS ARE IN!!!
This is what the letter said:
We have completed the compatibility testing for you and your recipient. The testing determines three levels of compatibility: tissue typing, blood typing, and crossmatching. The results of your compatibility testing are as follows:
Your tissue typing match to the recipient is 2 out of six antigens.
Your blood type is A+, which means your blood type is compatible to your recipient's blood type.
The cross match results indicate your recipient would be able to accept a kidney from you.
Please share your results with your recipient. If you would like to proceed with donor testing please call.
As soon as I read that I immediately called Spencer, Kim, Tanisha, Eric and a few other people. I JUST RECEIVED A VALENTINE'S DAY GIFT I WILL NEVER FORGET!!!
I called UCLA the next day and the next step is my medical workup. The nurse advised that based on my current BMI I would have to lose approximately 35 lbs to get under 30 BMI. So I would be starting with my weight loss goal as soon as I returned from Arizona.

Introduction
Well as you read from the description...I am starting this blog so that I can keep track of my weight loss and the process that goes into donating a kidney.
A little about myself...
My name is Maria but my friends call me Byte Syze.
I am...
...29 years old
...short
...loving
...sweet
...outgoing
...of Philippine decent
...a humanitarian
...an event planner
...an Executive Assistant
...a future Philanthropist
My time is taken up by all the things life has to offer and then some...
...my friends
...my family
...working
...United Dyvaz Social Club
...Church for the Set Ministry
...serving my community
...baking
...cooking
...traveling
...and most importantly, GETTING CLOSER TO MY LORD!
I am not perfect. I have my faults. But as my favorite quote says...
"If you don't love me at my worst...then you don't deserve me at my best"
Some of you may ask...why would she want to be a donor at such a young age?
Well, when I was 13, my uncle needed a kidney donor. I was too young to donate because you have to be 18. But I saw him suffer through his illness and I hated that I couldn't do anything about it. After years of being sick and countless days of dialysis he passed away.
Rest In Paradise Uncle Larry!!
When I heard about Spencer I knew this was my chance. Everything in me...my heart, my body and my spirit...told me that this was the right thing to do. So without hesitation I picked up the phone and called UCLA to make my appointment to see if I was a match.
I have only met Spencer in passing while hanging out on the motorcycle set. But from what I understand he is wonderful man. I have heard nothing but great things about him and that makes me even more eager to do it. From what I understand he is a great friend, a wonderful husband and father, he has served our country and is always so positive.
I know that God has brought us together because he has great things planned for us!
